Portraits Of Women - Elegance & Beauty

  Women...? ?

Women...Totally  different  from Men.

Women  who openly display their power, and skill, and receiving public recognition and honor. A women means turning every negative into positive. The woman who inspires me most in my childhood is my Grand Mother. I admire her great inner strength in the toughest gentleness of circumstances.

Actually I am inspired by any women who stand out in the crowd or in a society. I salute the women who created space for themselves when many of us walk out silently. I was inspired by Mother Teresa for her noble work for humanity, I love Dr Kiran Bedi because she is India’s topmost cop. Sushmita Sen I see her as a women of strength, courage and affection and Oprah Winfrey the first women in history to own and produce her own  Talk Show. She has been ranked the richest African American in 20th century.

                          Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa was born as Agnes Gonxha  Bojaxhin on 26th August 1910 in the capital of Macedonia to Albanian parents. She was the youngest of three children. She was deeply religious. At the age of 18, she left home for Dublin, Ireland, to join the Loreto abbey and become a nun of the Roman Catholic Church.

Mother Teresa the 'Angel of Mercy' dedicated herself to the service of mankind and served god amongst the poorest of the poor, sick and the dying for more than 50 years of her life She was  a nun, in Darjeeling. She left the convent, took basic training in nursing and went to live in the nearby slum. She wore an inexpensive and simple white sari with a blue border, which became the most recognized symbol of the Sisters of Charity.

Her first home was  'Nirmal Hriday' (pure heart) for the sick and the dying, and then ' ‘Shishu Bhavan’ for the disabled, orphaned and mentally retarded children, 'Shanti Nagar',  a colony for lepers where they were cared for, they could learn a skill, build their own houses and could work on their own fields, AIDS hospices and so on. The first home outside India was founded in 1965 in Venezuela. Others were later opened in Italy, Tanzania, Australia, US, Communist Cuba, former Soviet Union etc.

Mother Teresa became an Indian citizen in 1962. She has received many national and international awards in recognition of her noble work for humanity. The first award being Padmashri for distinguished service (1962), Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International peace (1972), Nobel Peace Prize (1979), Bharat Ratna (1980),  Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award (1993) etc. were some of them.

In 1983, at the age of 72, Mother was diagnosed with a serious heart condition and her health steadily worsened. In 1990, Mother had decided to step down as the  head  due to her failing health. In 1991 she underwent heart surgery and in March 1997, Sister Nirmala a former Hindu converted to Roman Catholic was elected to succeed Mother Teresa as leader of Missionaries of Charity. On September 5, 1997 the 87-year old mother died of severe cardiac arrest at the Missionaries of Charity headquarters in Kolkata.
The late mother taught the world the beauty in giving and left behind an enormous organization with the will to continue her work.  Henceforth the mother will be referred to as The Blessed  Teresa of Kolkata.

                             Sushmita Sen

I like Sushmita for her individuality and of course her dusky looks. The first Indian to win the Miss Universe pageant held at Manila Philippines 1994. there is nobody else could have so much confidence and charisma.

Born on November 19th 1975 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Daughter of an Air Force Commander her family of Bengali origin was posted in Nagpur, and finally in Delhi. She did her schooling with English Honors.

She was interested in modeling and took part in fashion shows during her school days. After she finished her plus two, she participated in the Femina Miss India contest and from then on there was no looking back.

Sushmita I like her as an actress in the movie “Mai Hoon Na” who rebranded the chiffon sari as a sexy outfit and bikini tops as a sari tops, she looks too hot.

The song "Tumhe jo maine dekha " the polka dots sari has become the latest craze  among women, she made sari look glamour.

on the personal front, Sushmita likes instrumental music, writes poetry and columns for newspapers and is fond of children.

I simply admire her more because she has adopted two baby girls. This brilliant, down to earth personality remains a much sought after women even years after she won the Miss Universe title and has proved that she has much more in her than just beauty.

 Oprah Winfrey

Born to an unwed teenage mother, Oprah Winfrey spent her first years on her grandmother’s farm in Kosciusko, Mississippi, while her mother looked for work .Life on the farm was primitive, but her grandmother taught her to read at an early age and at age three Oprah was reciting poems and Bible verses in local churches.
Despite the hardships of her physical environment, she enjoyed the loving support  of  her grand mother  and the church community, who cherished her as a gifted child. She was sexually promiscuous as a teenager. After giving birth to a baby boy who died in infancy, she went to live with her father.
Vernon Winfrey was a strict disciplinarian, but he gave his daughter the secure home life she needed. In the structured environment, Oprah flourished, and became an honor student, winning prizes for oratory and dramatic recitation.

Oprah Winfrey  makes her principal home on a 42-acre ocean -view estate in Montevideo, California, just south Barbara, but also owns homes in another six states and the island of Antigua. The buissness press measures her wealth in numerous superlatives: the highest paid performer on television, the richest self-made women in America.

More difficult to calculate is her profound influence over the way people around the world read, eat, exercise, feel and think about themselves and the world around them.
